Fall Events in the Black Hills

Every year, locals and travelers alike enjoy the changing colors and fall events in the Black Hills. Festivities range from local concerts, multiple festivals and one of the best corn mazes in the state. Interested in traveling to Rapid City for one of the following events? Our Favorite Fall Events in the Black Hills

Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Event

September 7th & 8th
23637 Strato Bowl Rd Rapid City, SD 57702

This balloon event is organized in appreciation of the historic Stratobowl and to bring awareness and preservation of this beautiful canyon. It occurs annually in mid-late September. You’ll be able to view the balloon launch from the rim. Tickets will be available for those who would like to participate.

Spearfish Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch

September 8th – October 31st
Please do not use GPS to find.

Take I-90 Exit 8, turn right (North) and travel 2.5 miles to Chicken Creek Road. Turn left (West) and travel about a quarter mile. Watch for the corn maze and pumpkin patch on the left.
Bring your family and find your way through the maze and enjoy our other extra activities. After you finish the corn maze, visit our pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect Jack-O-Lantern for carving and decorating. Pumpkins of all sizes and shapes will be available. Price will vary based on the size of the pumpkin. (pumpkins sold separately from corn maze price). Numerous other activities are being planned for September and October including a hay jump, tire climb, duck race, hay slide, bee-line, barrel train, bale pets, corn box and petting zoo. This year we also have a food truck offering drinks, snacks, light/quick meals and even flashlights and glow sticks!

605 Black Hills Classic

September 8th
Lead, SD

On Saturday, September 8, 2018, 605 Magazine will be hosting its first-ever live out-door event in western South Dakota. The brand that celebrates South Dakota will be working closely with the Lead Area Chamber of Commerce to bring you an all-new, back-country music festival, the 605 Black Hills Classic Beer & Music Festival in Lead, S.D.

Deadwood Jam

September 14th & 15th
Deadwood, SD

The Black Hills’ premier musical festival since its inception 20+ years ago. Deadwood Jam Tickets on Sale. Get your 2 day pass for $55. Friday Tickets are $20 and Saturday Tickets are $40.

Spearfish Harvest Fest

September 22nd
Spearfish, SD

Harvest Fest 2018 is set for Saturday, September 22, so get ready as food and crafts vendors fill the street while retail businesses take to the sidewalks for great end-of-the-summer deals! Don’t forget the Apple Pie and Pumpkin Carving contests, and you won’t want to miss the Antique Tractor Show. Along with our favorite food and craft vendors, side-walk sales, and baked goods contests, Harvest Fest is also a place for great local entertainment from around the Black Hills.

Buffalo Roundup

September 28th
Custer State Park

Witness one of the last great events of the Old West: the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup. Watch cowboys and cowgirls on horseback and park crews in pickups round up the 1,300 buffalo and drive them into the corrals. Following the roundup, watch park crews sort, brand and vaccinate the herd in preparation for the fall sale. Breakfast is available in both viewing areas and lunch in the corrals following the roundup.

Park entrance fees are waived the day of the roundup.

Great Downtown Pumpkin Festival

September 29th
Downtown Rapid City

Downtown’s biggest festival, The Great Downtown Pumpkin Festival, returns for a tenth year. Visit Main Street Square, venture down Sixth St., and into Memorial Park for a day full of fall fun including a pumpkin catapult, giant pumpkin weigh-off, Downtown pub crawl, Kidz Zone, pony rides, vendors and more
